About State Test Scores

An independent tool built by a parent to make a child's state test score easier to understand.

We are independent. State Test Scores is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency or state education department. We organize data those agencies already publish.

What this is

State reports give parents a performance level (like "Level 3") and a broad quartile, but not a clear sense of where a score actually stands. This site estimates a percentile from the publicly published, school-level performance counts, and shows how a score compares to the school, district, county, and the whole state. The score lookup is free.

Who makes it

This is a small, independent project built and maintained by a parent, not a company or an agency. If you have a question, a correction, or a school that is missing, email support@statetestscores.com.

Where the data comes from

All numbers come from official public files published by each state's education department (and, in some states, its largest school districts). These are group summaries about schools, not records about individual children. See the methodology for how the estimate is calculated and its limits.

Your privacy

The free lookup runs entirely in your browser: the score you type is never sent to us. We only ask for an email if you choose to join a state's waitlist or have a report emailed to you, and we use it only for that. We don't sell data or run ad trackers. Full details in the Privacy Policy.

The optional paid report

Everything above is free. There's one optional extra: a multi-year progress report, a one-time $5 unlock. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy (a merchant of record), so we never see or store your card details. If it's not useful, we refund it (see the Refund Policy).
