Kansas Grade 10 Math: what a high-school score means

On Kansas's KAP tests, Grade 10 Math is reported on a scale from 400 to 700 (2025 and 2026), and each score falls into one of 4 performance levels. Reaching Proficient, at 540 or above, is the state's proficiency line.

The score ranges changed during these years, so each period has its own table below, newest first.

Score ranges by performance level

2025 and 2026

From 2025, Grade 10 Math has a new score scale (400 to 700) and new level names, so a score from before 2025 is not directly comparable to one from 2025 on. Percentiles are, because each year is compared with its own students.

Who takes this test

ELA and Math: the grade 10 KAP tests, taken by 10th graders. Science: the grade 11 KAP science test, taken by 11th graders. Each year counts the students who took that test that spring. Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities (about 1 in 100) take a separate alternate test and are not included, and English learners in their first year in a U.S. school take Math and Science but not ELA. The statewide figures cover public schools; accredited private schools that give the KAP are shown as their own districts.

Is a particular score good?

A score's meaning depends on where it lands in the ranges above, and on how it compares to other students who took the same test. Our free tool turns a Grade 10 Math score into an estimated percentile versus the school, district, county and the whole state, so you can see where a score stands, not just its level.
