On District of Columbia's DC Science Biology test, Biology is reported on a scale from 300 to 600 (2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025), and each score falls into one of 4 performance levels. Reaching Met Expectations, at 450 or above, is the state's proficiency line.
| Level | Score range | What it means | Statewide 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partially Met Expectations | 300–411 | The lowest level, well below the state standard | 41% |
| Approached Expectations | 412–449 | Approaching the state standard | 49% |
| Met Expectations | 450–475 | Meeting the state standard (the proficiency line) | 9% |
| Exceeded Expectations | 476–600 | The highest level, above the state standard | 1% |
Statewide in 2025, about 10% of the students counted for Biology reached Met Expectations or Exceeded Expectations. The bar above shows the share at each level (left = lowest). 2025 is the most recent year with Biology results.
These numbers are the DC public and public charter school students who took each high-school course exam (PARCC, then DC CAPE), by the school where they tested. Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II count high-school students (grades 9-12) only; middle-school students who take those courses are not included. English I and II count every student who took them. Biology (the DC Science test) counts the high-school students who took it. OSSE hides groups of fewer than 10 students.

A score's meaning depends on where it lands in the ranges above, and on how it compares to other students who took the same test. Our free tool turns a Biology score into an estimated percentile versus the school, LEA and the whole state, so you can see where a score stands, not just its level.
