Who takes this test

Each course test is taken by the students in that course that year, so each test has its own group. As on Ohio's report card, a school counts each student once a year at their best score, without retakes of a course already counted. Middle-school students who take Algebra I or Geometry early are counted at their middle school (27,324 middle-school Algebra I tests in 2025, 21% of all Algebra I tests). Ohio prints each school's math and social studies results added up across their tests, so the split between those tests is estimated (see the methodology page). Groups under 10 testers are not shown.

Is a particular score good?

A score's meaning depends on where it lands in the ranges above, and on how it compares to other students who took the same test. Our free tool turns an American Government score into an estimated percentile versus the school, district and the whole state, so you can see where a score stands, not just its level.
