On Mississippi's MAAP end-of-course tests, Algebra I is reported on a scale from 1001 to 1099 (2018, 2019 and 2021 to 2026), and each score falls into one of 5 performance levels. Reaching Passing, at 1050 or above, is the state's passing score.
| Level | Score range | What it means | Statewide 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimal | 1001–1038 | The lowest level, well below the state standard | 0% |
| Basic | 1039–1049 | Approaching the state standard | 6% |
| Passing | 1050–1064 | Meeting the state standard (the passing score) | 28% |
| Proficient | 1065–1087 | Above the state standard | 50% |
| Advanced | 1088–1099 | The highest level, above the state standard | 16% |
Statewide in 2026, about 94% of the students counted for Algebra I reached Passing or higher. The bar above shows the share at each level (left = lowest).
These numbers are the Mississippi public school students who took each end-of-course test that year: English II, Algebra I, Biology and US History are taken at the end of the course, whatever the student's grade, so a percentile compares a score with that year's students in the course. Algebra I includes middle-school students who took the course early. Mississippi does not publish results for very small groups, so some small schools are missing.

A score's meaning depends on where it lands in the ranges above, and on how it compares to other students who took the same test. Our free tool turns an Algebra I score into an estimated percentile versus the school, district and the whole state, so you can see where a score stands, not just its level.
