On South Carolina's end-of-course EOCEP tests, Algebra 1 is reported on a scale from 0 to 100 (2018, 2019 and 2021 to 2025), and each score falls into one of 5 performance levels. Reaching Grade C, at 70 or above, is the state's Meets level.
| Level | Score range | What it means | Statewide 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade F | 0–59 | The lowest level, well below the state standard | 26% |
| Grade D | 60–69 | Approaching the state standard | 21% |
| Grade C | 70–79 | Meeting the state standard (the Meets level) | 23% |
| Grade B | 80–89 | Above the state standard | 16% |
| Grade A | 90–100 | The highest level, above the state standard | 14% |
Statewide in 2025, about 53% of the students counted for Algebra 1 reached Grade C or higher. The bar above shows the share at each level (left = lowest). 2025 is the most recent year with Algebra 1 results.
Each test counts the students who took it during the school year, not only in the spring: South Carolina's files combine the fall/winter and spring testing windows and, in most years, summer. Since 2020-21 every student must take Algebra 1, Biology 1 and English 2 by the third year of high school, even without taking the course. Middle-school students who take Algebra 1 early (or English 1, in 2018 and 2019) are included, counted at their middle school. Students who qualify for the state's alternate assessment take that test instead and are not included.

A score's meaning depends on where it lands in the ranges above, and on how it compares to other students who took the same test. Our free tool turns an Algebra 1 score into an estimated percentile versus the school, district and the whole state, so you can see where a score stands, not just its level.
